MY CONTRIBUTIONS
Along side two other UX motion designers, and a principle UX motion designer, I worked on defining a new motion design system for this device. I was responsible for developing animations for key features such as the music visualizer, screen transitions, timers, smart home, settings, reminders, clocks as well as fun personality moments. I created motion that improved the user experience of a device with a small screen while also incorporating surprise and delight into functionality that existing Alexa customers are familiar with.
CONCLUSION
This device has been massively successful among Alexa customers. The motion design system and assets created for this device have created the groundwork for future iterations with clock designs and animated assets. Within the first four days, the Echo Spot received a four star rating on amazon.com. The fun styles of the animations and visual style have lent itself to many demographics of users and has even influenced future Alexa devices with it being so well received. A few users even called out the animations in positive reviews on the Amazon detail page. See more about it here.
